Hello hello,
I hope everyone is enjoying the summer, the Tour de France, and functioning air conditioning. I have some goodies including summer music, a new podcast rec, plenty of memes, and other fun findings.
As always, if you know anyone that would like to subscribe, please send them to YeeHaw.io.

[THE GOOD STUFF]
100th Anniversary of the Grand Canyon - Photo from the 2019 National Geographic Travel Photo Contest (a strange image for a YeeHaw titled “Summer Time”, I agree)
CRAZY TRUE CRIME PODCAST (itunes link) - This crazy true tail, narrated by Neil Strauss, leads us through the investigation into a young actress/model that disappeared in 2018. This is one of those cases where the details unfold during the creation of the podcast, so a lot of heavy stuff goes down while being recorded. I am not partial to true crime, but this is an exception. There are 10 episodes and each is about 30 minutes long. So knock it out during your commute this week.
CRAZIEST BIKE CRASH EVER (YouTube) - Mountain of Hell is an annual downhill bike race at a ski resort in France. 700 racers go wheel-to-wheel in a 15-mile course down snow, ice, rock, and single-track. This year, the race doesn’t start out very well, as there is a massive wreck during a huge descent. Miraculously there were no reported injuries.
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TRAVEL PHOTO CONTEST WINNERS (link) - The 2019 winners are in, along with a bunch of other great submissions. Need a new computer background? You’ll find it here.

WHAT MAKES BOURBON BOURBON? (Men’s Journal) - Do you know what makes a bourbon different from other whiskeys? No, it does not have to made in Kentucky. Considering how popular bourbon is, it is suprising how nobody really knows what makes it different. This 2-minute read gives you the 6 requirements to be a bourbon…obviously the most important being that it must be from ‘Merica.
WHO WOULD YOU BET ON? (Twitter) - Ever wonder who would win between 3 professional soccer players and 100 kids? Well, Japan did. Here is a 30-second clip of the first point.
WHAT WAS/IS CICADA 3301? (YouTube) - Cicada 3301 is the name given to a group or individual that in 2012 started a mysterious and cryptic puzzle game on the internet. The puzzles, heavily focusing on data security, cryptography, and steganography, were posted across the internet with the believed intent of recruiting top thinkers. This is known to be one of the most elaborate and greatest mysteries of the internet age. This 17-minute video guides you through what is known of Cicada 3301.
SWISS ALPS WINGSUIT FLYING (Vimeo) - This GoPro Award winning video is of flyer Brendan Weinstein taking on Weisshorn peak in the Swiss Alps for a nerve-racking 1.5-minute trip to safety from a helicopter. I will enjoy from the safety of my computer, thank you very much.
MUSIC CORNER - Are you in the need for some great tunes in to head into the latter part of summer. Look no further. I assembled a tiki-themed playlist that is fit for almost any occasion. Tiki party? Birthday Party? Wedding? Bat Mitzvah? I have you covered, because Tiki is life.
Also, I have some newer music for a YeeHaw playlist. Most of these tunes are from 2019, with a few older ones that are new to me. As usual, there is a strong presence of rock, electro pop, indie, a little rap. But also some pop from Carly Rae Jepsen and Lizzo, and plenty of other surprises. Lots of good music coming out this year, making it very easy to assemble a killer playlist. This one is pretty massive (45 songs; 2 hours 44 minutes. Please enjoy.
A few artists/albums I want to call out on this playlist:
Stephen Malkmus - Groove Denied - This album was originally recorded in 2005 and wasn’t released until this year, largely because the record label didn’t think the time was right for its release (for a very long time). This album is full of great psychedelic and garage rock and I feature many songs in the playlist and start things off with my favorite one
Vampire Weekend - Father of the Bride - I haven’t enjoyed a Vampire Weekend album since maybe their first album in 2008. But Father of the Bride brought me back. Lots of good poppy hits on this one
Wand reminds me of a more upbeat Radiohead (recommended by my friend Blake)
Mr Little Jeans isn’t new, but her music is new to me. She makes you want to dance (recommended by my friend Laura A)
The French 79 song isn’t new either, but I discovered this song from a Cadillac commercial which runs constantly during the Tour de France
Dope Lemon’s Marinade and Bug Thief’s Cattails are songs that I think are fit for any situation
